2 - Extinction

I found that theoretically, there are five basic fears that we all live by.

To break it down, what is the general meaning of fear?

Its an anxious feeling that is caused by our anticipation or some imagined event or experience.

Extinction is number one. It is the fear of annihilation, ceasing to exist or for short, Fear of Death.
Imagine, disappearing into this world not knowing where you would end up. Would you be a soul? An entity? or just the feeling of unconsciousness. Forever. Just thinking about it is mind blowing.

Let's say perhaps your religion is Christianity. And you strongly and faithfully believe that when you die you would go to some place more beautiful. Heaven. Our final destination. How are we certain? Have we experienced it? Ofcourse not! Not until we die ourselves, then we will know about the true nature of death. Or is it just falling asleep and never wake up. Thinking about this phenomenon and expressing your hypothesis is way uneasy. Like the panicky feeling when you look over the edge of a tall building. Its the fear of the unknown.

According to
Mark HaddonThe Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, “I think people believe in heaven because they don't like the idea of dying, because they want to carry on living and they don't like the idea that other people will move into their house and put their things into the rubbish.”

When you die, are you certain that you are ready for it? As mentioned by elders if you die without finishing you mission here on earth, your soul will never rest until the deed is done. As written by Mark Haddon. Is it just a way of escaping reality? Heaven. Is it just a imaginary place society thinks about as you are fearful of what happens when you are dead. The theories, explanations and such are way too complex to comprehend. The astronomical proportions of understanding this is overwhelming. It's like if people believe in heaven because they don't like the idea of dying, maybe people who are afraid of death are afraid of the unknown.
