3 - Mutilation

Are you afraid of being injured or losing any part of your body? Can you imagine how disabled or injured persons are living even though their disabilities are making them feel like it's the end of the world? Thinking of how will they walk without legs, on how they can eat without hands. How can they function properly if they have this kind of disabilities? Let me tell you something about this topic. Mutilation is the fear of losing any part of our precious bodily structure; the thought of having our body's boundaries invaded, or of losing the integrity of any organ, body part, or natural function.

For example, anxiety about animals, such as bugs, spiders, snakes, and other creepy things arises from fear of mutilation.

I know this might sound odd, but ever since I was quite young, one of my worst fears has been me or people I care about either losing limbs, seeing them disfigured, or mutilation of some sort.

For most of my life, it didn't bother me, until my father got injured to the point part of a finger got mutilated in a work related accident.

I've mostly gotten over that.

My mother also had part of the end of a finger messed up (it was fixed in static position, permanently bent to a degree), and I'm mostly over that, though I admit I try not to look at it too often.

However, I just don't like to even think about it, and every time in my life where I feared it would happen to me or someone I cared for, it has proven intensely stressful.

Swami Sivananda expressed the opinion that "Forget like a child any injury done by somebody immediately. Never keep it in the heart. It kindles hatred."

As I've read, heard and experienced. Hate is one aspect that grows into fear. Generated by overwhelming emotions. Like revenge. A chain of reactions conquers ourselves and turns them into something we are not.
